Remove Inline Markdown Formatting

When I'm in standard authoring mode, I'm seeing the formatting underneath (hash marks, asterisks, etc) pop up while i'm typing. and once in awhile they'll stick and i need to delete the entry/sentence or formatting and redo them. my main thing here is that if i'm authoring in standard word processing mode, i don't want to see the undercarriage.

if i was in markdown format, that makes more sense to see the correlation between what i've typed and what it does, but i don't necessarily want to see ghosty hashtags show up while i'm typing
