Proposals of management of images
(in version 1.3.5 - macOS)
Great integration of the images. Thanks.
Some first remarks:
1) When we drag an image, Smolpad editor is not always opened at this time... Is it possible to add this behavior: dragging a picture over the menuBar icon opens the smolpad editor, to permit inserting the image.
2) Reducing the displayed image in the note (it is a note, not a page editor). I don’t know on which fixed size, perhaps though a setting or a size as a big icon (width=124 px), and by clicking (with modifier) on it showing the image in a bigger size in an erruptive and temporary window, but please let the copied image with the initial size in the smolpad folder
3) give a mean to retrieve the image y click and drag again (perhaps click and modifiers, one for copy, one for move, the iamge ?
4) if we delete the copied image in the Smolpad folder, the text is still present (normal i thing), perhaps a message should appear to alert the user ? or the text of the link to the image in red ?) But great: if I copy again the image in the folder (same name), the image appears again in the note.
5) link to the image : i saw 2 types of text :

and

Why ? And about the [] I thought it was to add a title? But not.
6) I thought it would be a problem with 2 images with the same name (in the same note or not) : Great implementation... Except if we delete an image in the note, the image is staying in the Smolpad folder.
7) I don’t understand the second choice in the menu of the setting (./assets) ???
8) Do you need help for the FR translation for this new menu? Are other sentences around the images?

1.3.6 is on the App Store now, for Mac, iPhone and iPad, and the missing-picture frame from point 4 is in it. Marking this one done; the other points stand as answered above.

Point 4 is built: a note whose picture file has been moved or deleted now shows a small frame with the picture icon and the file's name instead of a blank line, and clicking it still reveals the link so you know which file to put back. It is in the current TestFlight build, and in 1.3.6, which went to App Review tonight.

Thank you for the careful list, and sorry for the slow answer: several of these landed in 1.3.5 while the post waited, so here is where each one stands today.
Dropping a picture on the menu bar icon: not planned for now. The panel opens on a click, and a picture can be dropped anywhere in the editor once it is up.
Smaller pictures: right-click a picture and choose Resize to set a width in points. The note remembers it, and the copied file keeps its original size.
Getting a picture back out: right-click it and choose Show in Finder, which opens the folder the picture lives in. Dragging out of the note itself is not something Smolpad does.
A deleted file: you found a real gap. Today the note shows a blank line where the picture was, with no hint. That is on the list to fix, so a missing picture says so.
The two forms: a picture as dropped is written as . Once you resize it, Smolpad writes an HTML img tag instead, because Markdown has no size syntax and the img tag is the one form other apps render. The square brackets hold the alt text, a description of the picture, not a title.
Deleting a picture: right-click it and choose Delete, and Smolpad removes the picture and its file, after asking. Deleting the line by hand leaves the file alone on purpose: Smolpad never deletes a file it was not asked to delete.
That setting now reads Copy next to the note or Copy to an images folder, and the folder is called images. The old wording was the confusing part, and it is gone.
Yes please. The picture strings have been in your French sheet since August 25, below the separator row.
